Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was a fantastic president who effected the Civil War in more ways than one. Before and during his election, President Lincoln was against three things: States having more rights than the nation, Slavery, and War (He believed this to be a last resort and tried not to throw the first punch.). In 1860 he was elected president. Though this was fantastic news for the North, it was less than welcome in the South. In fact, his presidency drove South Carolina to secede from the nation. Many other southern states followed suit. Lincoln didn't want the nation to be divided and made reuniting the nation his predominant goal during his presidency. He gave many inspiring speeches such as the Gettysburg Address and his 2nd inaugural speech. But the one act that most people associate with him is the Emancipation Proclamation. Abe Lincoln was an honorable, selfless man who did all he could to contribute to this nation.

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedom, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
"My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen s the last best hope of Earth."
"You dislike the Emancipation Proclamation; and, perhaps, would have it retracted. You say it is unconstitutional- I think differently."
